Start of GP Varignana 2026 from Cablotech
At the heart of the “Settembre Castellano” festivities, on Saturday, September 26th, 2026, cycling took center stage once again with the 6th Gran Premio Varignana—a national road race for the Elite/Under-23 category. Now in its 73rd edition, the event carries on the tradition of the historic Coppa Varignana, which was established in 1952.
Also known as the Castel San Pietro Terme Trophy, the Cablotech Valter Golfieri Memorial Trophy, and the ASD Sergio Dalfiume 1952 Trophy, this competition—organized by a committee comprising ASD Dalfiume 1952, the Cablotech Biotraining Cycling Team, and Polisportiva Villafontana Ciclismo—is one of the most awaited sporting events for the local community. For decades, it has drawn top-level athletes and enthusiasts from across the region, while also showcasing the scenic and cultural highlights of the Castel San Pietro Terme–Osteria Grande area and the Varignana hills, where the race takes place.
The quality of organization, the energetic atmosphere along the course, and the passionate, warm participation of the crowds watching the athletes pass by make this long-established event a bridge between sport and local hospitality every year, promoting tourism and community well-being while always looking toward the future.
At 1:25 PM, the action gets underway at Cablotech; following morning preparations and checks, 97 athletes—accompanied by their support staff—set off from Via Lombardia towards Castel San Pietro Terme. They will tackle an initial flat circuit (to be ridden five times), followed by six laps of the “Terme” circuit, and finally three laps of the concluding circuit—passing through Liano, Casalecchio dei Conti, and Gallo Bolognese—before reaching the finish line in Varignana at 4:50 PM.
Covering a distance of 136.8 km in 3 hours, 11 minutes, and 4 seconds at an average speed of 42.959 km/h, 56 athletes completed the race; Bruno Andrea Alfio (Team Hopplà) took the top spot on the podium, followed by Filippo Agostinacchio (Biesse – Carrera – Premac – 2nd place) and Emanuele Ansaloni (Team Technipes #inemiliaromagna – 3rd place), having overcome the challenging terrain and the progressive field thinning during the final laps.
This exciting and emotionally charged day concludes with the awards ceremony at Cablotech Srl—the race’s starting point—with the hope that this successful collaboration among sports clubs, partners, law enforcement, and volunteers will continue in the years ahead to promote the welcoming area of Castel San Pietro Terme, using sport as a driving force for development and well-being.
